Well its the time of year again when we pull our rigs out of storage, brush out the dust and start to get ready for the season. For the most part your rig may have been sitting for weeks or even months without use so you really dont know whats going to work and what wont. There are a couple of simple things you can do to ensure your first trip out isn't a disaster.
1) Check your battery. If its been a few years since it was replaced, go buy a new one. Replacement is easy and nothing causes more problems with your rig than bad batteries. They wont charge correctly, wont hold the correct voltage and will cause malfunctions on everything from your refrigerator to your monitor panel. Its cheap insurance to guarantee everything will be working properly.
2) Get your LP tank(s) filled. Even if you think they may be ok its never a bad idea to get them topped off or exchanged. A chilly shower is not an ideal way to find out your LP has run dry.
3) Sanitize your water system! You should sanitize both your freshwater tank as well as the holding tanks. Your holding tanks can build up bacteria and algae and mold during its time in storage. Sanitizing the tanks will not only remove these bad elements but keep your water from smelling bad. With the fresh water tank and holding tanks try adding 1/4 cup of bleach and fill the tanks 1/2 way with fresh water. Run your faucets, showers and toilets until you can smell the bleach solution coming through. Add a bag of ice down the toilet and into the black tank which will add a scouring effect to remove debris from the interior of the tank.Take a drive!! Driving around will cause the bleach and ice cube solution to swish around the tanks to sanitize and clean the interior. When done, drain the freshwater tank completely and refill with fresh water. Run each interior faucet for a few moment to clear the bleach solution from each line then drain your holding tanks as usual. This simple treatment will go along way to keeping your freshwater clean and tank monitors reading accurately.
